It was wonderful to come together on campus for our Moriah Foundation Circle breakfast with our Circle Members and parents who wanted to learn more about the Foundation Circle.
Foundation Circle Co-Chair, Lauren Placks
Lauren shared how proud she is to be involved in the Circle, which was launched 5 years ago, to support the important work of The Moriah Foundation.
“As parents, we all want to give our children the best possible education, help create the most productive learning spaces and we also want to help other parents who are desperate to bring their children to Moriah but don’t have the financial means to do so. As Circle members, you are making that possible.” Foundation Circle Co-Chair, Lauren Placks
Lauren shared how the terrible attacks on our homeland and the rise of antisemitism makes us even more aware of how fortunate we are to be part of Moriah.
“We are blessed to bring our children to a school where they not only receive an outstanding education, but can feel safe and nurtured, and be proud of their Jewish identity.”
Reflecting on the upcoming capital appeal, Lauren shared how excited she feels about this next chapter.
“Whilst there are many opportunities already available for our kids, so much thought has gone into the plans for the new High School to ensure the best possible outcome for our children. Together, we can help make this significant project a reality, not only for our children but for future generations, and I hope you will all support the project in whatever way you can.”
Foundation President, Judy Lowy OAM
Judy expressed her solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Israel and her wishes on behalf of us all for the hostages’ safe return and the safety of our heroic IDF and all Israeli citizens.
Judy spoke about the ways Moriah is responding to this challenging time.
“We are encouraging our children to be proud Jews, educating them to advocate for Israel and nurturing them to lead rich Jewish lives, as upstanding citizens, who look after one another and make the world a better place.”
Judy shared some details about our upcoming capital appeal which is taking place in September.
“For the Foundation and Foundation Circle, our job is to continue to invest in our Jewish children, many of whom rely on us for fee assistance and bursaries, and at the same time, to now embark on our most ambitious project yet – the redevelopment of our High School. We understand this is an ambitious project, but it is time to invest further in Moriah. We are aspirational people, we are builders, we believe in progress and giving our children the best opportunities that we can.” Foundation President, Judy Lowy OAM
We are aiming to build two new contemporary multi storey High School buildings which will include a science centre, design & technology centre, visual arts centre, a library and study centre, multipurpose hall, canteen, break out areas, staff faculty spaces, and generously proportioned classrooms. The demolition of our ageing buildings will enable us to double our green space, expand our sports courts, improve our traffic flow, increase onsite parking, and enhance our security.
If we raise the required funds, construction will begin next year, and the buildings will be due for completion in early 2027.
In introducing our new College Principal, Mira Hasofer, Judy shared how fortunate we are to have Mira at the helm, who is not only an educator and leader of the highest calibre, but also a proud Moriah graduate.
“In her short time at Moriah, Mira has demonstrated her exceptional leadership skills, deep understanding of teaching and learning methodology, genuine commitment to excellence in Jewish and general education, and strong alignment with Moriah’s ethos.”
