Why our Foundation Circle evening resonated so strongly

The Moriah Foundation Circle was delighted to host a special evening centred on community, connection and the future we are building together for our children.

With construction now underway on Moriah’s transformational High School Redevelopment Project, guests heard an update from Capital Works Sub-Committee Co-Chair Teri Esra on the significant progress achieved to date. From years of planning through to the signing of the main works contract and commencement of construction, attendees gained valuable insight into how this ambitious vision is now becoming a reality on campus.

As construction progresses and momentum continues to build across the College, Foundation events provide a unique opportunity to stay informed, connected and involved. Throughout the evening, speakers reflected on the importance of investing not only in buildings, but in the people, values and opportunities that shape Jewish life for generations to come. Foundation President Judy Lowy OAM and Foundation Circle Co-Chair Lauren Placks reinforced the vital role that community support plays in strengthening Moriah, helping provide outstanding educational opportunities, a strong sense of belonging and a deep connection to Jewish identity.

A highlight of the evening was a compelling presentation from psychologist and family therapist Kim Slender, who shared practical insights into raising resilient children in an increasingly complex world. Drawing on more than 25 years of clinical experience, Kim explored the themes of fear, hope, connection and emotional wellbeing, sparking thoughtful discussion that continued well beyond the formal presentation.

Closing the evening, Foundation Circle Co-Chair Daniel Sekers reflected on his own journey as a Moriah student and encouraged those in the room to see themselves as the next generation of custodians of our community. His message was a powerful reminder that the opportunities we enjoy today exist because previous generations chose to lead by example, invest in the future and give back.

The overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees confirmed what many felt on the night: it was a fascinating evening of meaningful conversation, practical parenting insights and an inspiring glimpse into Moriah’s future.
