We were thrilled to host our Moriah Foundation Circle event on Thursday, 1 September at the home of Judy and Steven Lowy AM, with an expert panel who discussed “What’s ahead in business and the economy.”
Welcome and thank you
Foundation President Judy Lowy warmly welcomed guests to her home. “We are all here supporting the work of The Foundation because we care deeply about helping Moriah families less fortunate than ourselves, and just as deeply about ensuring that we as a community continue to ensure that Moriah has the capital and resources to remain a leading school of choice for Jewish families who care about Jewish education.”
Judy shared that our Circle has grown from 39 families when it was first launched in 2019 to 71 families today. In thanking Circle members Judy said, “We really are humbled and very grateful that on top of paying your own school fees you have decided to offer your support by joining the Circle.”
“The Moriah Foundation Circles inspires other committed parents who believe in the power and value of a Moriah education to support The Foundation in providing affordability, sustainability and special programs that amplify more opportunities for all Moriah students.” Lauren Placks Foundation Circle co-chair
An inspirational message from our College Rabbi
College Rabbi, Rabbi Krebs, spoke about Tzeddakah – one of the key ways we rehabilitate our relationship with Hashem and ourselves. “Tzeddakah is not charity, it is justice – using our talents, abilities and success to make the world a fairer place. It’s not a kindness, it is an obligation for those of us who have been able to succeed in life, to help and assist those who have not been given the same level of grace.”
Our College Captains
College Captains Ariella Cappe and Daniel Fihrer shared how their Moriah education has made them intent on giving back any way they can. “In addition to all the academic and co-curricular programs on offer, what makes Moriah truly special, is the community we have been embraced into and the friendships that we will carry with us for the rest of our lives. Every day we feel so lucky to enter a campus that is so vibrant, and full of culture, inspiring us to work harder and to grow closer.”
Our expert panel
Foundation Circle Co-Chair Daniel Sekers spoke with our expert panel about what lies ahead in the economy during the rapidly changing environment including inflation, low unemployment, rising interest rates, and a redistribution of population. We are pleased to share some of their valuable insights with you.
My view is we will hit a peak interest rate by March 2023 at about 3.5% and a lot of the problems we are seeing in the economy will get resolved in the next six months.

“In the largest poll of under 35-year-olds in Australia, 85% of their audience said climate change was the biggest issue, not the cost of living. People under 35 have given up on the dream of home ownership and are more content
